Havering AC Strike Gold Three Times At Essex Cross Country Relays

Havering AC’s winter season began in style as club teams won three titles and claimed a further silver medal at the Essex Cross Country Relays.

The championships took place at Chingford on Saturday 19 September, with Havering athletes delivering a strong set of performances across the age groups.

The Under-16 boys’ trio of Jack Rossington, Callum Millard Jennings and Freddie Scorey-Hall finished more than half a minute clear of Woodford to take gold.

The Under-18 boys also reached the podium. Aidan Doherty, Oliver Rushworth and Jake Tregidgo edged Basildon to take silver behind Chelmsford.

The senior women’s trio upgraded last year’s silver to gold, finishing a minute clear of the opposition. Kate O’Neill ran the fastest female leg of the day in 22:07 before Robyn Matson and Lydia Smith completed the victory.

Havering’s senior men returned to the top of the podium after two years away. Matthew Blacklock opened in 20:58, Kieran O’Hara moved the team into the lead, James Stewart extended it with the quartet’s fastest leg of 20:30 and Chander Dhillon anchored them to victory more than 40 seconds ahead of Chelmsford.

Five club youngsters were also in action for Essex Schools at the English Schools Combined Events Championships in Bedford. Abigail Adegite was Havering’s highest-placed representative, finishing 11th in the junior girls’ pentathlon and adding almost 200 points to her personal best tally.

Amy Mansell placed 13th in the senior girls’ heptathlon, Oma Nwapa 16th in the same competition, Ome Nwapa 18th in the inter girls’ heptathlon and Josh Buxton finished 20th in the inter octathlon, with personal bests recorded across the group.
