‘Our Families and Community Have Been Affected’: Elm Park Councillor Speaks Out After Car Vandalism
Elm Park Councillor Barry Mugglestone has spoken out after numerous vehicles were vandalised over the weekend, condemning the damage and calling on residents to work together rather than allow acts of vandalism to affect the wider community.
Cars were covered were sprayed with swear words and other abusive messages during the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving vehicle owners to face the consequences of damage to their property.
Councillor Mugglestone expressed his disappointment at what had happened, highlighting the impact on families and the wider community.
He told the Havering Daily:
“We were disappointed to see cars meaninglessly vandalised in Elm Park over the weekend, if people have frustrations they need to deal with these appropriately as their acts of vandalism have affected families and our community. As a community we need to work together.”
His comments come amid concern about vehicle vandalism in Havering. In a separate police statement concerning four vehicles damaged with spray paint in Mungo Park Road, Rainham, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the offences were being treated as racially motivated criminal damage.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Mulcahy said officers were carrying out enquiries to identify those responsible and speaking to those affected.
Councillor Mugglestone’s message is a reminder that vandalism does not just damage vehicles. It affects residents who rely on their cars, creates unnecessary expense and can leave families feeling that their property and community have been targeted.
His call for people to work together underlines the importance of protecting the neighbourhoods in which residents live, work and raise their families.
