Meet Havering’s Incredible Teenager, 15, Who Has Published His First Book and Dreams of Hollywood!
Most teenagers are still deciding what they want to do with their lives, but 15-year-old Derin from Emerson Park is already making his dreams a reality. A published author with his own book, No Way Back, hitting the shelves today, this remarkable young man is proving that age is no barrier to ambition, creativity and determination. And with three more books already in the pipeline, this is just the beginning of his story!

Derin with his mum Abiola.
The Havering Daily caught up with Derin and his incredibly proud mum, Abiola, to discover the inspiration behind his book, the hard work that went into bringing it to life and the big dreams he has for the future.
For Derin, the idea for No Way Back began during a school choir trip, when his imagination started racing and the first ideas for his story took shape.
“The inspiration for the book came when I was on a choir trip with my school. I had lots of ideas and my thoughts were put down on paper.”
What started as a collection of ideas grew into something much bigger. Derin began writing the book while he was in Year 8, developing a story that not only reflected his creativity but also explored important social issues.
“My school trip was the inspiration and I went on to add all important social issues in the book too, such as racism, poverty and many other important issues. The book sees it all from a young person’s viewpoint,” he told The Havering Daily.
And this was no small school project that ended up forgotten in a drawer. Derin was determined to see his work published.
With the support of his mum, he took the remarkable step of self-publishing No Way Back, paying for it himself and even finding a designer to create the book’s front cover.
For a 15-year-old, that is an extraordinary achievement. While many young people are still discovering their interests, Derin has already taken his ideas, developed them into a book and found the determination to bring his work to readers.
His love of writing goes back to primary school, where English quickly became his favourite subject.
“Even at primary school I enjoyed writing. English is my favourite subject and writing stories for me is very easy.”
It is clear that Derin has a natural flair for words, and his talent has not gone unnoticed by his friends. They are incredibly proud of what he has achieved, with one friend even taking his book into school to show their English teacher what Derin had accomplished.
It is the kind of moment that says so much about this young author. His success is not only something he is proud of, but something his friends are excited to celebrate too.
And what comes next for a teenager who has already achieved so much?
If Derin has his way, the sky is the limit.
“I’d love to use my creative side for films, perhaps have my book made into a film or even work as an actor myself and win an Oscar one day.”
From seeing his own story adapted for the big screen to potentially standing on an awards stage, Derin is not afraid to dream big.
With his enthusiasm, determination and willingness to put in the work, he is already taking the first steps towards those ambitions.
And there is more to come. Derin has three further books in the pipeline, meaning No Way Back could be the first of many stories to come from this talented young writer.
Behind every young person chasing a dream, there is often someone cheering them on. For Derin, the support of his mum, Abiola, has helped him turn his ambition into something tangible, and her pride in his achievements is clear.
At just 15, Derin has shown what can happen when imagination meets determination. He has written a book, funded its publication himself and started building a future around something he genuinely loves.
Who knows where his writing journey will take him? Perhaps one day No Way Back really will make it to the big screen.
For now, one thing is certain: Emerson Park has a young author to be proud of.
Well done, Derin! The Havering Daily wishes you every success with No Way Back and all the exciting chapters still to come.
