A13 CHAOS AFTER CAR FIRE SPREADS TO GRASSLAND AND ROAD FENCING.

A car fire on the A13 in Rainham sparked a wider blaze this afternoon, spreading to nearby grassland and roadside fencing and forcing firefighters to close the A13 at Ferry Lane.

Firefighters were called to the incident, where a vehicle had caught fire before the flames spread beyond the car.

The blaze also took hold of nearby grassland and road fencing, prompting emergency services to shut the road while they dealt with the fire.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The closure caused significant disruption, with a long tailback building up on the A13 as motorists were forced to wait while firefighters worked to bring the situation under control.

The incident comes as Havering continues to experience extremely dry conditions, with grass and open spaces across the borough particularly vulnerable to fire.

Firefighters worked to tackle the vehicle fire and prevent the flames from spreading further.

The A13 at Ferry Lane was closed in both directions while the incident was dealt with.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and avoid the area where possible.
