The Mercury Brings a Summer of Music, Family Fun and Nostalgic Nights to Romford.
From K-pop crafts and Taylor Swift-inspired performances to live music, children’s entertainment and a journey back to Romford’s iconic rave scene, The Mercury Shopping Centre has unveiled an exciting programme of free summer events for visitors of all ages.
Taking place throughout August and into early September, the packed line-up includes interactive workshops, live performances and family-friendly activities designed to keep children entertained during the school holidays while celebrating music through the decades.
The programme begins with the Pop Con Weekender on 8–9 August, featuring free K-pop keyring crafting and a Pop Con Market on Level One.
On Sunday 16 August, young partygoers can enjoy Mini Fest with Jelly Jade, where children can dance, sing and take part in games and competitions across four free sessions. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
Pop fans won’t want to miss the Country Girl Concert of the Summer on Saturday 22 August, with performances inspired by Taylor Swift alongside chart-topping hits from artists including Dua Lipa and Sabrina Carpenter. Visitors can also make friendship bracelets throughout the day, with free tickets available to book online.
Families with younger children are invited to Storytime in the Garden on Wednesday 26 August from 11am–2pm. Featuring nursery rhymes, storytelling, picnic snacks and the chance to bring along – or adopt – a teddy through Smile Charity, the event is perfect for children aged six and under.
The celebrations continue over the Bank Holiday weekendwith a creative vinyl decorating workshop hosted by Kaleidoscope, followed by an afternoon of live music organised and performed by local young people in partnership with The Ionians, who are helping champion Havering’s rich musical heritage.
The summer concludes on 5 September with a nostalgic 90s Music Takeover, where visitors can explore the immersive BOSH Rave Car, create their own club-inspired zines and discover the stories behind Romford’s famous nightlife through an audio experience inspired by the town’s legendary rave years. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in a special tour celebrating the iconic Pulse nightclub.
