United In Respect: Havering Salutes The Heroes Who Serve Our Nation At Armed Forces Day Parade.
Romford proudly stood shoulder to shoulder on Saturday as hundreds gathered to celebrate Armed Forces Day, paying tribute to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.
The parade began at 10.30am in South Street, led by veteran Jimmy James, before making its way through the town centre to Havering Town Hall. Despite soaring temperatures, veterans, serving personnel, cadets and supporters marched with pride, demonstrating the courage, commitment and sacrifice that define Britain’s Armed Forces.
The Mayor of Havering, Councillor Maggie Themistocleous, paid tribute to those who have defended the nation’s freedoms both past and present.
The parade brought together representatives from across the borough, including Deputy Lieutenant Nick Bracken OBE, Mick Murray MBE, and Havering’s three Members of Parliament, Margaret Mullane, Andrew Rosindell and Julia Lopez, all standing united in support of our Armed Forces community.

Havering Police officers, led by Inspector Connolly, were also in attendance, standing proudly alongside veterans and cadets throughout the event. Inspector Connolly told the Havering Daily: “Today marked Armed Forces Day, with support from Metropolitan Police officers from the Havering Town Centre Team, Neighbourhood teams, and Special Constable volunteers.

Officers were on hand to support and ensure the safe passage of the parade as it made its way through Romford Town Centre, drawing members of the community together in recognition of this important occasion.
The event concluded at the Town Hall, celebrating the outstanding contributions of our serving armed forces, their families, reservists, veterans, and cadets as well as all those who have dedicated their lives to keeping our communities safe.”
Councillors from across Havering, led by Council Leader Councillor Keith Prince, joined residents in showing their appreciation and respect, demonstrating the borough’s enduring support for those who wear, and have worn, the uniform.

The intense summer heat did little to dampen the spirit of the day as those taking part marched proudly through the streets of Romford to warm applause from spectators lining the route.

A special congratulations must also go to Nicola and Havering Council’s events team, whose hard work once again delivered a fitting and dignified celebration that the borough can be immensely proud of.
Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to recognise the extraordinary dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community. Saturday’s parade was a powerful reminder that Havering remains deeply proud of its veterans, serving personnel, reservists, cadets and military families.
