The Heatwave Heroes Keeping Havering Going Deserve One Big Thank You.
As Havering experiences one of the hottest weeks of the year, with temperatures soaring above 30°C and records being challenged across London, there is one thing we should all take a moment to do. Simply say thank you.
While many of us have been fortunate enough to seek shade, switch on a fan or enjoy the comfort of air conditioning, thousands of people across our borough have continued working in sweltering conditions to keep Havering running.
Our refuse and recycling crews have been out collecting bins from the early hours of the morning. Police officers have continued patrolling our streets in body armour under a blazing sun. Firefighters have remained on constant standby, responding to emergencies while also facing an increased risk of grass and wildfires during the hot weather.
Ambulance crews have worked tirelessly, caring for vulnerable patients and responding to heat-related emergencies, while NHS staff have continued to provide essential care in hospitals, GP surgeries and care settings despite the soaring temperatures.
Teachers and school staff have also shown incredible dedication, many working in classrooms without air conditioning while supporting children through one of the hottest spells of the year. School leaders have had to make difficult decisions to keep pupils safe while ensuring learning could continue wherever possible.Delivery drivers, postal workers, bus drivers, carers, street cleaners, parks staff, council workers, shop staff, volunteers and countless others have all continued serving our communities despite the challenging conditions.
This week has reminded us just how many people work quietly behind the scenes every single day, often without recognition, to keep our borough moving.
Their jobs have not stopped because the temperature has climbed. If anything, many have become even more demanding.
Whether wearing protective clothing, lifting heavy equipment, responding to emergencies or simply carrying on serving the public with a smile, their commitment deserves recognition.
So from everyone here at The Havering Daily, thank you.
Thank you for your resilience.
Thank you for your professionalism.
Thank you for continuing to serve our communities, whatever the weather.
You are the people who keep Havering running, and this week, more than ever, your hard work has not gone unnoticed.
