NewFantastic Five-Year-Old Hornchurch Girl Raises £520 To Fill School Library With Diverse Books

A remarkable five-year-old girl from Hornchurch has shown that age is no barrier when it comes to making a difference.

Janae, a pupil at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Hornchurch, has raised an incredible £520 after completing not one, but two 5km running events in just seven days, all to help provide diverse books for her school’s library.

On 10 May, Janae took part in the Black To The Trails 5km event at Dunstable Downs. Just one week later, on 17 May, she laced up her trainers once again to tackle the Hackney Moves 5km at Hackney Marshes, crossing the finish line in an impressive 40 minutes and 45 seconds.

While completing a 5km run is an achievement for many adults, Janae accomplished the feat twice at just five years old.

However, it wasn’t the medals she was running for.

Inspired by a desire to help other children, Janae set herself the challenge of raising money to purchase a collection of diverse books for her school’s library, ensuring that pupils have access to stories that reflect a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and cultures.

Thanks to the generosity of family, friends and supporters, Janae raised an amazing £520, which she has used to buy a carefully selected collection of books that will now be donated to St Mary’s School.

Her achievement has been praised as a wonderful example of kindness, determination and community spirit.

At an age when many children are still learning to ride a bicycle, Janae has already shown what can be achieved when passion and purpose come together.

The young fundraiser’s efforts will leave a lasting legacy at her school, with generations of children benefiting from the books she has helped provide.

Her story is not only one of sporting determination but also of compassion and a desire to help others feel seen and represented through the power of reading.

For the pupils at St Mary’s, the new books will open doors to different experiences and perspectives. For Janae, they represent the reward for weeks of hard work, dedication and an incredible achievement that has touched the hearts of many.

At just five years old, Janae has already demonstrated that one person really can make a difference, and her generosity is an inspiration to the entire community.
