Reform Councillors Launch Petitions Against Proposed Rush Green HMOs
Last Friday, 22 of May, Reform UK Councillors for Eastbrook and Rush Green, Councillor Ron Emin and Councillor Ben Suter, handed in a resident-led petition against a proposed HMO in Horace Avenue, Rush Green.
In the Council’s local plan, there is a specific mention of the need to protect houses that have three or more bedrooms.
Leader of the Opposition and Eastbrook and Rush Green Councillor Ben Suter told the Havering Daily:
“We need to protect family housing more than ever before. Too many local families are struggling to find suitable homes while larger family houses are increasingly being lost to overdevelopment and poorly planned HMOs.
Residents in Rush Green are deeply concerned about the impact this proposal could have on parking, anti-social behaviour, pressure on local services, and the character of the area. These concerns cannot simply be ignored.
Barking and Dagenham Council’s own local plan recognises the importance of protecting larger homes for families, and we believe that policy should be properly enforced.
We will continue standing up for our community and fighting against developments that put profit before local people.
Ron and I will also fight other proposed HMOs in Rush Green as part of our campaign to protect Rush Green’s identity as a community for families.”
The petition, signed by local residents living in and around Horace Avenue, calls on Barking and Dagenham Council to reject the application and uphold policies designed to protect family housing across the borough.
