Hornchurch Shop Sold Vape Liquid To Under-18 During Trading Standards Sting.

A Hornchurch business is now under investigation after selling vape liquid to an under-18 during a Trading Standards operation.

Havering Council officers, supported by Havering Metropolitan Police cadets, carried out joint test purchasing operations across the borough to ensure retailers were not illegally selling vapes, tobacco or knives to children.

During visits to six businesses in Hornchurch, one shop sold vape liquid to an underage volunteer.

The business cannot currently be named due to ongoing investigations, but officers say further action will now be taken and prosecution remains possible.

The council says the operations are carried out regularly and without warning as part of efforts to protect young people from harmful and age-restricted products.

Helen Oakerbee, Havering’s Director of Public Protection and Planning, said:

“The work of our teams to ensure that these products, which by law, must not be sold to anyone under-18, is very important in helping to keep our young people safe.

“Businesses also have a responsibility and we expect them to comply with the law. If they don’t, we will take strong action against them.”
