Three Arrests As Police And Businesses Join Forces In Romford Day Of Action

Joint patrols, crime prevention stands and targeted operations took place across Romford town centre on Thursday 22 October, with 44 representatives attending an opening briefing.

Romford BID, in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, Havering Enforcement, MLB and town centre security teams, delivered a coordinated Day of Action aimed at tackling crime, reducing anti-social behaviour and supporting local businesses.

The operation resulted in six stop and searches, three arrests, four investigations and one intelligence report being submitted, according to the press release supplied on behalf of Romford BID. The release did not specify the offences connected with the arrests.

The day began with a breakfast briefing at the Salvation Army, attended by representatives from Romford BID, The Brewery, The Liberty, Mercury Mall and other local retailers, alongside police and enforcement partners.

The briefing provided an opportunity to share operational priorities and coordinate activity ahead of joint patrols. Breakfast was provided by Greggs at The Brewery, with the cost covered by Romford BID.

Throughout the day, joint patrols covered the town centre, The Liberty, Mercury Mall and The Brewery. These focused on crime and anti-social behaviour, concerns around begging and rough sleeping, and reassurance for businesses, workers and visitors.

Crime prevention stands at NatWest and Halifax gave members of the public opportunities to speak directly with officers, receive practical advice and raise community safety concerns.

Julie Frost, Romford BID Director, said:

“Partnership working is central to our commitment to making Romford a safe and welcoming place for businesses, workers and visitors. It was fantastic to see well over forty representatives from across the town centre come together for the briefing and support the joint activity. These Days of Action demonstrate the importance of working together to support our town centre and the people who use it.”

Superintendent Sharon Brind attended the briefing and said:

“It was a pleasure to attend the briefing and see so many partners coming together with a shared commitment to making Romford safer. Since 1 September, we have seen no robberies involving personal robbery in the town centre. This is a positive development, and partnership working has played an important role in achieving it. By working closely with local businesses, security teams and enforcement partners, we can continue to address local concerns, prevent crime and provide reassurance to the community.”

Romford BID said it would continue working with the Metropolitan Police, Havering Enforcement, MLB and local security teams through further Partnership Days of Action.
