VIDEO: ‘Protect Your Property’-Met Police in Havering launch major anti theft campaign.
The Met Police have partnered with the Havering Daily to launch a major new crime prevention campaign aimed at tackling the growing threat of vehicle crime, tool theft and opportunistic theft offences across Havering and London.
The hard hitting project, titled Protect Your Property, brings together frontline Met Police officers and leading industry experts to give residents and tradespeople practical advice on how to better secure their vehicles, tools and property before criminals strike.
With tool theft and vehicle crime continuing to devastate tradespeople and families across the capital, the campaign delivers clear and direct guidance on the simple but effective steps people can take to protect themselves.
The video series covers a wide range of topics including bicycle and motorcycle security, car and van theft prevention, protecting expensive tools and trade equipment, insurance considerations and the latest security products available.
Experts featured in the campaign include Bennetts Bike Social, Disklok, Rhino Trade Insurance, SelectaDNA, Shoaib Awan The Gas Expert, Hiplok, TVL Security Systems and Jobson Tools.
PC Dan Austin from the Met Police East Area Command Unit also appears in the series, discussing the sharp rise in catalytic converter thefts and explaining what motorists can do to reduce the risk of becoming victims.
Inspector Mark Connolly said: “The aim of this project was to bring together genuine experts to provide practical and independent advice that people can actually use to keep their property secure.
“Tool theft and vehicle crime can have a devastating impact, particularly for tradespeople whose livelihoods rely on their equipment and vehicles. We wanted to help raise awareness of some of the preventative measures available and encourage people to think more about protecting their property.”
Havering is increasingly leading the way across London when it comes to crime prevention initiatives and property marking awareness, with police and community partnerships working together to help residents fight back against thieves.
The campaign also highlights the importance of forensic property marking technology, steering wheel locks, upgraded van security and visible deterrents that can make criminals think twice.
For many tradespeople, the theft of tools is not just an inconvenience, it can mean losing thousands of pounds worth of equipment and being unable to work. Police hope this campaign will help prevent more residents from becoming victims.
