Romford at centre of Counter Terrorism probe after man and woman arrested in arson investigation.

Two people have been arrested in connection with a Counter Terrorism Policing investigation into an arson attack on a memorial wall in Golders Green.

A 46-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on the morning of Monday 4 May at an address in Romford. Both were detained on suspicion of arson and taken to a London police station, where they remain in custody. Officers also carried out a search at the Romford property as part of ongoing enquiries.

The arrests form part of an investigation into a reported arson attack on a memorial wall in Limes Avenue, NW11, which took place in the early hours of 27 April. The wall is understood to contain images of individuals linked to protests and alleged killings by the Iranian state.

Counter Terrorism Policing has confirmed that extensive enquiries have been underway since the incident was reported, with the latest arrests described as the result of detailed investigative work. The wider operation has already seen multiple arrests and charges in relation to a series of incidents across north west London.

Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing in London, said officers remain committed to protecting communities and supporting those affected. She confirmed that specialist units are working closely with the Metropolitan Police, providing reassurance patrols, armed deployments and protective security advice to affected areas.

Since the earlier attack in Golders Green, additional resources have been deployed across London, with thousands of officer shifts dedicated to community reassurance and prevention work.

The investigation remains ongoing and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
