Havering Museum Enters A New Era With Plans To Reach More Of The Community
Havering Museum is beginning a new period of growth and development after appointing Dr Ellan Lincoln-Hyde as its freelance Museum Sustainability Consultant.
The appointment was formally confirmed when Dr Lincoln-Hyde signed a contract with Museum Director Peter Hale at the museum’s Brewery Gate premises in Romford on Thursday 27 August.
Havering Museum says residents can expect its outreach programme to expand, with stronger links being developed with businesses, charities and local organisations across the borough.
Dr Lincoln-Hyde said: “It is an exciting time. I am delighted to be working with the Museum Directors and volunteers. The Havering community can expect an expansion of our outreach programme, to include businesses, charities and local organisations.”
She added that the renewed programme would showcase how the museum’s facilities and collections could be used to support organisations working throughout Havering.
Dr Lincoln-Hyde brings experience in historical research and community management, including previous roles with King’s College London and Romford Ceilidh Band.
The appointment has been supported through Community Infrastructure Levy funding secured from Havering Council. The levy is paid by developers to help fund infrastructure and facilities needed within the community.
Speaking for the museum’s Board of Directors, Peter Hale said: “Supporting Havering Museum is an appropriate and valuable use of the Community Infrastructure Levy; money paid to the council by developers when development takes place.”
The directors thanked Havering Council for the funding and acknowledged the work of Museum Sponsorship Manager Ellen Owen and former council culture and heritage chief Guy Selfe in helping to secure it.
Dr Lincoln-Hyde will be the keynote speaker at Havering Museum’s annual general meeting at 7pm on Wednesday 14 October.
Havering Museum is based at The Brewery Gate, 19-21 High Street, Romford, and is currently open from Wednesday to Friday, 11am to 4.30pm. Further information is available at www.haveringmuseum.org.uk.
