With Romford’s MP Andrew Rosindell crossing to Reform, questions are now swirling over whether more Havering councillors will follow suit, sparking speculation ahead of this year’s local elections.

Havering has seen party defections from councillors with increasing frequency over the past few years, making local politics more unpredictable than ever. Mr Rosindell’s move has intensified attention on the borough’s council, with residents and political commentators alike asking whether other elected members might switch sides before May.

So far, some of the borough’s most high-profile councillors have made their positions clear. Mawney’s Ward representatives in Collier Row have confirmed they will remain Conservative. Popular councillors Dilip Patel and Jason Frost have issued a joint statement declaring their intention to stand as Conservative candidates in the upcoming elections. Meanwhile, Brooklands Ward councillors Viddy Persaud and Tim Ryan have reassured residents that they will also continue as Conservatives this year.

Despite these statements, uncertainty remains. The shift of an MP can act as a catalyst in local politics, prompting speculation about possible defections and strategic moves across the borough. Residents are watching closely to see if other councillors might cross the floor before polling day.

This year’s local elections are shaping up to be among the most open and competitive Havering has seen in recent memory. Party loyalty, political ambition, and public perception could all play a decisive role in the weeks ahead. For voters, the question is simple: who will remain true to their party, and who will be tempted to join the ranks of Reform?
