BREAKING: Man arrested for arson following fire at the Town Hall.
A man was arrested for arson last night following a fire at the Town Hall in Romford. The fire broke out just before 10pm at the rear of the building and has impacted one of the ground floor offices.
London Fire Brigade responded quickly, alongside local police officers and a police scene remains in place this morning.
A spokesperson for the Met Police told the Havering Daily:
“On Monday, 20 May at 9:55pm East Area BCU Police and London Fire Brigade were called to a building fire at Romford Town Hall. London Fire Brigade were able to contain the fire to one office in the building.
The fire was extinguished and it appeared that the fire had been started deliberately.
An investigation was initiated and a man was arrested who remains in custody.
The investigation continues.”
A cordon remains in place outside the Town Hall this morning.
