Andrew Rosindell, Member of Parliament for Romford, has expressed relief and satisfaction at the planned celebration of Chanukah in Havering to now proceed following days of protests. The public celebration, featuring the lighting of a Menorah, is scheduled to take place at the Town Hall in Havering on 12th December at 6:00 p.m.

Mr. Rosindell, deeply committed to the community of Havering, voiced his concerns over Havering Council’s initial contemplation of cancelling this significant event. He firmly believes that the cancellation of such a celebration is against the principles of freedom of religion and sets a concerning precedent.

“As Romford’s MP, I was determined to campaign for a full public celebration alongside the Jewish community of Havering. I shared in their distress and anger,” stated Mr. Rosindell. “From flawed reasoning to poor communication with those concerned, this episode brought shame to what is and must remain a welcoming borough to all.”

Mr. Rosindell emphasised the importance of public representatives supporting and enabling the celebration of traditions, particularly those tied to freedom of religion. He expressed his disappointment in the decision to cancel the event, citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as an insufficient reason for such a move.

“I am grateful to Councillor Ray Morgon for reflecting on this decision and coming to the right judgment so that the display of the Menorah can proceed,” said Mr. Rosindell.

The MP hopes that all involved, including members of the ruling Administration in Havering, will reflect on this incident. He urges public representatives to stand with the British Jewish community and defend freedom of religion, a fundamental value of British society.

“I look forward to continuing to work with and support Rabbi Lee Sunderland and all members of the Romford & District Synagogue to ensure they can live in Havering without fear and continue to be a cherished community within our borough,” Mr. Rosindell concluded.

Have those promoting and supporting the erection of a Chanukah Menorah outside the Town Hall for eight days near Christmas called for a ceasefire in the Holy Land following the lead of the Pope and Archbishop of Canterbury?

So Jews have to fulfil a particular political requirement David before they can enjoy the right to a public celebration of a religious and cultural event ??

If there is to be a ceasefire then Hamas should surrender themselves and release all the hostages. Hamas have broken the terms of their own pause in hostilities to release the hostages. Don’t follow the psychological warfare they are playing with us.
