A record number of Havering pupils will be heading to secondary school this September.

On National Secondary Offer Day 2023 (1 March) 3,236 pupils were offered places – over 100 more than last year.

The expansion of a number of the Council’s secondary schools allowed the Council to increase the number of Year 7 places to accommodate a larger pupil intake, while continuing to meet parental preferences for schools.

It means nearly 79% of pupils have been given their first choice of school and more than 93% have been offered a place at one of their top three preferred schools.

This was well above the London average, where 89% of pupils were offered a place at one of their top three preferences of secondary school.

Councillor Oscar Ford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

“This is tremendous news for the borough. As the population continues to grow, it’s pleasing that we have been able to meet the demand for school places.

“This is reflected by the fact that all of our permanently expanded secondary schools are now full, and I’d like to thank the schools organisation team for their hard work in expanding these schools.

“The Council’s decision to invest in expanding many of our secondary schools means that more high quality places will now be accessible to this age group over the next few years.

“My thanks also go out to the schools admissions team who have worked closely with parents and carers to offer guidance and advice throughout the process.”
