Havering and London residents are waking to a very picturesque white scene as between 8-10cm of snow fell yesterday evening and during the night. Snow had been forecast for Londoners as it began to fall just after 6pm Sunday (December 11). The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for heavy snow yesterday evening across the London area.

Stanstead airport tweeted last night that it had temporarily closed its runway as snow was being cleared. Gatwick Airport had also shut its runway whilst the snow was cleared.

Temperatures today are set to remain between 1-2 degrees with a cloudy sky.

Gritters have been out across Havering during the night but can not reach every road in the borough. Many roads are still very icy and snow filled.

This cold spell is expected to last until Sunday next week when temperatures begin to rise.

Thank you to Harry for sending us this picture of Havering last night.
