Oldchurch Road, Romford was closed just before 7pm last night as witnessess report seeing a police car chase after a vehicle had struck a motorcyclist and drove off leaving the victim in the road.
All three emergency services attended as the motorcyclist was taken to hospital. It is believed other cars were struck as the suspect drove off leaving the scene of the accident and a trail of damaged vehicles behind him.
A spokesperson for the police told the Havering Daily:
“Police were called at 18:45hrs on Thursday, 28 November to reports of a collision at Oldchurch Road, Romford.
“Officers and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended. At the scene a car had been in collision with a motorcyclist. The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene.
“The male motorcyclist, aged 50s, was taken by LAS to an east London hospital where his condition, although serious, is not life threatening.
“Police have arrested a male, no further detail, on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving without insurance. He is currently in custody at an east London police station.”
