Community social media groups and pages went in to a frenzy in the early hours after a loud bang was heard by many residents within the vicinity of Gallows Corner.
At just after midnight many residents from Harold Hill, Harold Wood, Collier Row, and even as far as Romford market, turned to social media to ask what the loud bang was. With some group posts having hundreds of comments within minutes.
Many said the bang was so loud they went outside to see if someone had crashed outside their house.
It didn’t take long for residents to get to the bottom of the mystery bang though. A few residents confirmed a lorry had a tyre blowout on the A12, near B&Q.
Some lorry tyres hold over 100psi and when a tyre ruptures it can cause a load bang as it explodes.
The blowout caused significant damage to the lorry’s wheel arch, which resulted in debris scattering across the road.
Police attended the scene to ensure everyone was okay and to make the area safe.
