Two dogs and four puppies die in maisonette fire.

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters managed a fire at a four-storey residential block in Romford. The second and part of the third floor, and half of the connecting stairway of a five-roomed maisonette were damaged. Six dogs died, but there were no human injuries. The fire was brought under control by 9pm. Cause under investigation.

Substantive work to begin on Gallows Corner refurbishment scheme by March 2025

At London Mayor’s Question Time on 23 May, Sadiq Khan confirmed that the Government had awarded outline business case approval to the A127 Gallows Corner refurbishment scheme, and will be funding 85% of the project, with TfL funding the remaining 15%.

Five green spaces across Havering preserved as Village Greens.

Havering Council has formally agreed to protect and designate five new green spaces as Village Greens, preserving them for future generations. These sites include Gooshays, Harold Hill; New Zealand Way, Rainham; Wennington Green, Wennington Village; west of Taunton Road, Harold Hill; and Fleet Close Play Site, Upminster. Councillor Graham Williamson affirmed the council’s commitment to safeguarding valuable green spaces.
