NewGallows Corner Delays: Residents Ask “Where Are The Workers?”

The long-running disruption at Gallows Corner or the Havering farce as it is commonly referred to, continues as residents looking at drone shots of the site repeatedly ask -where are the workers?

Residents are fed up and describe it as months of congestion, diversions, uncertainty and ever-changing completion dates.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Essex & Suffolk Water said:

“We have completed the testing needed to identify the additional work required on the newly installed water main.

“This has been a complex and technically challenging process, during which damage to the main was identified following the initial installation phase.

“Work is underway to carry out the necessary repairs, which will take place within the existing section of road where access to the pipe network is already established. The work will continue to take place underground, and specialist crews may not always be visible at street level.

“We are continuing to work closely with TfL and are focused on completing the remaining works and restoring full access to the road network as quickly as possible while protecting vital water supplies.”

The explanation is unlikely to reassure many Havering residents who have already endured months of disruption at one of the borough’s busiest junctions.

Earlier in the project, residents were told that teams would be working “around the clock” to complete the repairs as quickly as possible.

However, as the delays continue to mount, many residents are now openly questioning what is happening behind the barriers.

Across social media and community forums, a recurring question keeps being asked:

“Where are the workers?”

Residents have pointed to drone footage and photographs of the site, saying they rarely see visible activity and struggle to understand how a project that is supposedly operating around the clock can continue to face repeated delays.

Essex & Suffolk Water has stated that much of the work is being carried out underground and that specialist crews may not always be visible from street level. Nevertheless, frustration continues to grow as completion dates are repeatedly pushed back.

What was once expected to be a temporary period of disruption has become, in the eyes of many residents, a seemingly never-ending saga of delays, revised schedules and mounting frustration.

Gallows Corner is one of the most important road junctions in Havering, carrying thousands of vehicles every day and serving as a key route across the borough and beyond.

Instead, motorists, businesses and residents have faced months of traffic congestion and uncertainty, with the finishing line appearing to move further away each time it comes into sight.
