HAVERING COUNCIL LAND earmarked for disposal: What happens next for Priory Road, Gays Field and Bedale Road?

Havering Council has previously identified land at Priory Road, Gays Field and Bedale Road/Tiverton Road for potential disposal, with housing among the possibilities for some sites. But what has happened since those decisions, and what could the future hold for the land, local residents and Havering’s surrounding countryside?

The council’s asset disposal programme has identified parcels of land that could be sold or transferred as part of efforts to generate capital receipts and support its wider financial strategy.

In August 2023, Cabinet considered proposals involving Gays Field, at Jubilee Close in Romford, and land at Bedale Road/Tiverton Road in Harold Hill. The sites were included in the council’s plans to progress disposal and planning-related steps.

A council scrutiny meeting in July 2024 also heard that the asset disposal programme aimed to generate around £10 million a year in capital receipts.

However, the sites are not all at the same stage, and inclusion in a disposal programme does not automatically mean that a sale has taken place or that housing development has been approved.

More to follow.
