£6.75 MILLION EXTRA FOR HAVERING! GOVERNMENT FUNDING BOOST.

“The days of Tory governments funnelling money to Tory councils are over. Labour in Government bailed out the previous administration and is now supporting the current leadership, regardless of political differences, to deliver projects that will help improve the lives of local people,” Margaret Mullane MP.

The Government has advised Dagenham and Rainham MP, Margaret Mullane, that the Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government will be providing £6.75m additional funding to alleviate some of the financial pressures at Havering Council.

For several years the Council has received an exceptional loan facility from Government to cover gaps in Havering’s budget. It recently made a specific request for a £9.8 million grant. The Labour Government has now revealed that 70% of that sum will be allocated to help Havering recover its financial position.

In making the award the Government made clear that it expects Havering to focus this resource directly into the high cost service areas that have driven the financial challenges that Havering has faced, specifically Adults and Children’s Social Care; SEND; and Temporary Accommodation. Projectsdemonstrating an early and positive impact on the Council’s financial sustainability should be prioritized.

Margaret told the Havering Daily: “The Government has provided an extra £6.75 million to Havering, this is in addition to the previously announced significant uplift to the Council’s funding. Whilst it’s true to say that decades of Tory mismanagement decimated the Council finances, which was then perpetuated under the resident association administration; the services that my constituents and the wider public in Havering rely upon are above party politics.
