Eight Havering AC Youngsters Secure South Of England Podium Places
Eight young Havering Athletic Club competitors earned top-three finishes while representing Essex at the South of England Inter Counties Championships.
Eight Havering Athletic Club youngsters did the club proud as they all achieved top-three finishes for the Essex team at the South of England Inter Counties Championships in Kingston.
National medallist Ameer Salaam added another victory to his impressive season by winning the Under-16 boys’ shot. He also finished sixth in the discus.
Josh Buxton returned to form with second place in the Under-16 boys’ 100m hurdles and took third in the 100m sprint. Abigail Adegite secured another second-place finish over the barriers in the Under-16 girls’ 300m hurdles.
Ayla Baker threw a season’s best, narrowly short of her career best, to finish second in the Under-16 girls’ javelin. Sam Burdett added another javelin silver in the Under-18 men’s competition.
There were also two personal bests in the throwing events. Sam Johnson improved his best while placing second in the Under-18 men’s shot, and Harrison Rabess achieved another personal best as he finished third in the Under-18 discus. Bode Thompson completed the club line-up with third place in the Under-18 high jump.
The main track and field season ends this weekend as Havering AC hosts its annual championships and open event. More than 220 athletes from Havering and neighbouring clubs are expected to compete for podium places.
The club’s multi-event athletes will also represent the Essex Schools team at the English Schools Combined Events Championships in Bedford. Amy Mansell and Oma Nwapa will contest the senior girls’ heptathlon, Ome Nwapa the intermediate heptathlon, Josh Buxton the intermediate octathlon and Abigail Adegite the junior pentathlon.
The winter season then begins next weekend, when club teams contest the Essex Cross Country Championship at Chingford.
