‘It’s Like a Race Track’: Hornchurch Residents Furious as Drivers Turn Residential Road Into Weekend Speedway
Burnway residents in Hornchurch have once again spent a weekend watching their residential road become what they describe as a race track, with vehicles allegedly speeding at ridiculously high speeds during the late hours.
Between Saturday and Sunday last weekend, vehicles were reportedly seen speeding from the bottom end of the road towards the top end, with residents saying the problem happens almost every weekend.
Those living on Burnway and in neighbouring areas say they are angry and increasingly concerned about the danger posed by drivers using the residential streets as a place to race.
One resident told the Havering Daily:
“This happens every weekend. Either Friday to Saturday night or Saturday night to Sunday night.
“Idiots speed down this road at incredibly high speeds. This is a road that bends and stupidity like this puts many people at risk.
“We are tired of this. They come and do circuits of our road and neighbouring roads.
“This needs to stop. It is incredibly dangerous and idiots like this need to stop.”
Residents say the problem is not simply about noise or inconvenience.
Their concern is what could happen if a driver loses control on a residential road, particularly where people live, walk, park their cars and come and go from their homes.
The repeated nature of the alleged speeding is also adding to residents’ frustration, with locals claiming the activity has become a regular weekend occurrence rather than an isolated incident.
For those living on Burnway, the message is clear: residential roads are not race tracks.
Residents want the issue taken seriously before somebody is seriously injured.
And they are asking for action to put a stop to what they describe as dangerous and reckless driving through their neighbourhood.
