Could You Help Create Romford’s Stunning Sea of Poppies? St Edward’s Church Needs Your Support

It may still be summer, but volunteers at St Edward’s Church in Romford are already looking ahead to November as they prepare to create one of the borough’s most striking Remembrance displays.

Each year, the church is transformed by a breathtaking sea of handmade poppies, lovingly knitted and crocheted by members of the local community in honour of those who have served and sacrificed.
Now, organisers are hoping to make this year’s display even bigger and are appealing for more people to get involved.
Whether you’re an experienced knitter, a keen crocheter or simply enjoy crafting, the church would love your help in creating handmade poppies for this year’s Poppy Appeal display.
There is no set pattern to follow and no required size. In fact, organisers say the beauty of the display comes from every poppy being unique, reflecting the community spirit behind the project.
Completed poppies can be dropped off at the church office or placed inside St Edward’s Church in Romford.
A spokesperson for the church said:
“If you have ever visited our church in November, you can’t fail to be impressed by our fabulous poppy display. Every poppy is handmade by a member of our community. This year we are hoping to go bigger and better.”
The annual display has become a much-loved feature of Remembrance in Romford, with hundreds of handmade poppies coming together to create a powerful tribute to those who gave their lives in service of their country.
If you can spare some time and a little wool, your handmade poppy could become part of this year’s beautiful display, ensuring the community continues to remember together.
