Fourth Fire This Week at Ingrebourne Hill as 70 Firefighters Battle Another Major Blaze in Rainham.
Another major grass fire has broken out at Ingrebourne Hill in Rainham, marking the fourth fire at the location and the latest in a series of blazes across Havering this week. The repeated incidents are causing growing concern among residents, who are questioning why the borough’s green spaces continue to be affected by fires.
The latest incident has seen the London Fire Brigade deploy 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters to tackle the blaze.
Around four hectares of grassland are currently alight, with large plumes of smoke drifting across the area.
The London Fire Brigade has urged residents living nearby to keep their windows and doors closed where possible while crews work to bring the fire under control.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:
“Around four hectares of grassland in Rainham is currently alight.
“The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke in the area. Please keep windows and doors closed where possible while we work to bring the fire under control.”
This is now the fourth fire at Ingrebourne Hill, adding to a growing number of fires that have broken out across Havering in recent days.
The repeated incidents are placing increasing pressure on the London Fire Brigade, with firefighters repeatedly called to tackle grass and open land fires during a period of hot weather. Every appliance committed to these incidents is one that is temporarily unavailable to respond to other emergencies elsewhere.
The fires are also taking a devastating toll on Havering’s wildlife and natural habitats, destroying grassland, vegetation and the homes of countless birds, mammals, reptiles and insects.
For many residents in Rainham, today’s fire brings further concern as they continue to cope with recurring smoke affecting the area. The latest blaze has added yet more smoke to the atmosphere, with residents once again being advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
Residents are urged to avoid the area and allow emergency services to continue their work safely.
