NewHavering Council Unveils 100-Day Plan to ‘Restore Stability’ and Build a Better Future

Havering Council has unveiled its 100-day plan, setting out how the new administration intends to restore stability to the authority, improve public services and lay the foundations for what it describes as a positive long-term vision for the borough.

The plan was launched by the Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Keith Prince AM, during Full Council on Wednesday 22 July.

According to the council, the plan reflects the priorities residents raised during the local elections, with a focus on cleaner streets, safer neighbourhoods, better public services, stronger finances and ensuring Havering residents are once again proud to call the borough home.

The administration also says the plan will place greater emphasis on value for money and clearer governance to improve decision-making across the council.

The 100-day programme is divided into three key priorities. These focus on stabilising the council, gaining a clear understanding of its current position to develop a long-term roadmap, and delivering visible improvements for residents.

Councillor Keith Prince said:

“We have wasted no time in getting on with the huge task before us. This new Administration is two months in and has done all we can to hit the ground running. Now, we move onto the next phase to create London’s Super Suburb.

“This 100-day plan speaks for itself. We know that when we spoke to residents during the election they did not feel they were being listened to.

“They told us the Council was not delivering the key things they wanted, including clean and safe streets and homes for local people. They also asked for improvements to the services the Council provides.

“This plan addresses those issues and ensures we start moving in the right direction for a better Havering. Yes, we know we face huge financial challenges, but Cabinet Members and officers are working hard to turn this around and have already made progress.

“In the short time we have been in charge we have achieved a lot, and we will be setting out a clear path and long-term vision for the future to create a place where everyone is proud to live, work, visit and invest.”

The council says the plan marks the first stage of its programme to improve services, strengthen the borough’s finances and deliver on the commitments made to residents during the election campaign.
