Rainham Hotel That Has ‘Massive Impact’ On Local Residents To Go Before Havering Licensing Committee.

The operators of a hotel in Rainham will go before Havering Council’s licensing committee after residents complained about “noisy” events disrupting their lives, writes Sebastian Mann local democracy reporter.

The venue was initially scheduled to face a licensing hearing this week, but councillors adjourned the meeting until August as the operator could not attend.

His legal representative had requested it be rescheduled as he was in a business meeting, and committee chair Councillor Christine Vickery set a new date of 6th August.

Councillors were told by one resident about the “massive impact” it was having on his family, both mentally and physically, and how he “worried” about letting his children go outside when an event was on.

“I don’t want to walk out in my garden and hear rude words all the time,” he told the committee.

“I don’t want to hear fireworks after 11pm. I don’t want to hear things I don’t even understand which have been translated to me that are awful.”

He said he and his family go out every weekend to get away from the noise.

Another resident told the committee she “just couldn’t cope” with “the swearing, the abuse, the screaming and the music that just thumps”.

The council’s licensing department installed a sound limiter in November 2021, but officers found it was not being used, nor was the relevant noise management plan, last August.

Officers aren’t seeking to strip the venue of its licence entirely, but is requesting the committee bans it from hosting regulated entertainment in the garden area.

The council says it has been dealing with complaints since 2021.

Berwick Manor Hotel was approached for comment.
