NewCelebrating the Success of Havering’s Young People Through RETHREADED

News from Youth Unity

We are delighted to share the achievements of students from your school who took part in RETHREADED, a 12-week creative wellbeing programme that recently came to a close. We wanted you to know just how much they contributed, grew, and achieved over the course of the project. All the young girls who took part are from Havering.

About the Programme

Launched in February 2026, RETHREADED was designed to encourage creativity, confidence, social connection and self-expression through sustainable fashion design and upcycling.

What began as a fashion project quickly grew into something far richer: a safe, supportive space where young people built genuine friendships and confidence alongside their creative skills.

From Strangers to a Friendship Circle

We began with a group of girls, many of whom had never met before.

Over the weeks they formed a close and supportive circle.

The original plan was to run two separate groups, older, then younger, but the first group was so engaged that they chose to keep attending and naturally began mentoring and encouraging the younger participants.

This created positive peer mentoring, stronger relationships, and a real sense of belonging across the group.

Creativity and Confidence

Working with sustainable and upcycled materials, the young people designed and created their own unique fashion pieces.

We followed their lead as their interests shifted from making items to sell towards creating personal pieces they were proud to wear.

Throughout, they demonstrated:

  • Creativity and individuality
  • Growing confidence and self-expression
  • Teamwork and problem-solving
  • Genuine pride in their work

One participant was so proud of her design that she wore and modelled it while away on holiday, a lovely sign of the confidence she had built.

A Space to Grow

Beyond the creative work, RETHREADED became a trusted and emotionally safe environment.

The sessions opened natural conversations about confidence, identity, self-image and sustainability, and gave the young people a place to express themselves without fear of judgement.

The friendships and support networks they built are, for many, the most lasting outcome of the project.

Recognising Their Achievements

At our final celebration, each participant received a certificate recognising their individual contribution, from creativity and community spirit to confidence, sustainability and leadership.

We held the celebration as a private event within the trusted space the group had built together, and a professional filmmaker captured the journey as a lasting record of everything they achieved.

Thank You

We are proud of every young person who took part, and we hope you are too.

Their enthusiasm, kindness and creativity made this programme a real success.

We would warmly welcome the opportunity to work with your students again on future creative wellbeing projects.

With our thanks to Park Charitable Trust for Girls for making this programme possible.
