Labour MP And Councillors Hit Back At Misinformation Being Shared Regarding Beam Park Station.
The Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham- Margaret Mullane MP, alongside Beam Park Ward Candidates Matt Stanton and Trevor Mckeever, have issued a formal statement to correct the record following the circulation of misleading information regarding the status of the Beam Park station project.
To provide absolute clarity to residents, the MP’s office has confirmed that the Department for Transport (DfT) has officially lifted its previous objections to the scheme. This follows an intensive period of lobbying by the Labour team to resolve the timetabling concerns that had stalled the project under the previous government.
The Labour team has moved to provide the following assurances to the community:
- Official Approval: The Mayor of London has given the “green light” for the project, and the DfT’s concerns have been successfully resolved, allowing the scheme to proceed.
- Funding Status: A budget of £35 million remains committed and protected by the GLA. This sum is currently being reviewed to account for inflation, ensuring the project remains financially viable.
- Planning & Construction: Planning consent for the station’s ticket office has been granted. Furthermore, Barking and Dagenham Council has secured a legally binding condition: the developer, Vistry, may proceed with housing phases only on the basis that the station is delivered, and no new homes can be occupied until the station is fully constructed.
“It is disappointing that misinformation has been circulated locally, causing unnecessary concern for residents,” said Margaret Mullane MP. “The facts are clear: we have successfully lobbied to lift the block on this station. We have secured the funding, the planning, and the legal safeguards to ensure the developer delivers.”
Trevor Mckeever added, “Since the previous government abandoned this project in 2021, we have been the only consistent voice fighting for its resurrection. We will not allow the progress we have made to be obscured by political posturing from those who were previously content to see the project fail.”
