Hey, it’s Jasper, with another sport report. This week I will be focusing on recent Hornchurch matches – the Premier League round-up will return next week.

Saturday 28th March

Farnborough 2 – 2 Hornchurch

Some of my cousins live in Farnborough, so it proved to be an easy away day to attend. Hornchurch striker Poleon put the Urchins 1-0 up. Despite a great first 45 from the away team, in the second half it was like they forgot how to play. Late on in the game Hornchurch fans went wild, behind the goal, as captain Wraight scored a 90’ + 3 equaliser.

Friday 3rd April

Hornchurch 3 – 0 Dagenham & Redbridge

Good Friday meant that the “District Line Derby” was here. This meant passion and pride, heartwarming and heartbreaking moments for both sets of fans.

Early on, in the first half Henry Hearn went through on goal, but found it on his weaker foot, meaning he looked to finish his chance much later then he should have, and the chance was lost.

Hornchurch vs Dagenham & Redbridge

Hornchurch kept on fighting and an opener from ex-Dagger Josh Rees gave the loyal “Red and White army” a deserved goal . KSI (now part owner of Dagenham) was silenced, then it got worse for Dagenham as a second goal was scored by defender Phillips, just before half time.

Then it was half time. I saw a lot of people I knew in the crowd, including my teacher (Hi Mr Pitty if you are reading). The 3000 strong crowd were very loud as the second half kicked off. Dagenham drifted into the game and had a few chances, with none of them good enough to beat Arthur Nasta, the home goalkeeper. In the 74th minute, Hornchurch made it three – The nail in the coffin. Dagenham fans flooded out the stadium, with the home fans asking, “is there a fire drill?”

Monday 6th April

Maidstone United 5 – 4 Hornchurch

Unfortunately, I couldn’t make this game which was good in a respect of not seeing them lose, but my it was goals galore. Balanta and Rees both bagged a brace but it wasn’t enough.

Saturday 11th April

Hornchurch 1 – 0 Ebbsfleet United

Yes, I was here, and a after a boring first half, the majority of the second Half was a Chess match. Hornchurch’s Henry Hearn was brought on from the bench, and it was a completely different tempo from that point. Then Balanta scored, the ex QPR player giving them another win, with a 90th minute goal – finally beating the Ebbsfleet keeper.  Nathan Bertram Cooper was brought on to settle the match, shoring up the defence.

These matches, as well as a 3-3 home draw against Chelmsford City on Tuesday night leaves the top of the league very close – with two matches to go.

Can Hornchurch still win the league? Will it be the play-offs?

That’s all for this week’s round-up — see you soon for more results, highlights, and stories from the world of football!

Busy fixture list Jasper, great coverage as always.

The Urchins certainly don’t do things the easy way! Looks like it will probably be the play offs though. They key is to finish as high as possible for home advantage.
