Summer Fun Day at Lodge Farm another roaring success!
Local activist and campaigner Ruth Kettle-Frisby today writes:
This year’s highly anticipated Summer Fun Day in Lodge Farm Park was another roaring success. This popular event is organised by the much-loved, hard-working volunteers at Havering Miniature Railway, and year upon year it never fails to bring joy.
It was forecast to rain for most or Sunday, but in true British style the wonderful organisers decided to solider on. This was the right call; it was going to take more than a few precarious looking clouds to deter young Havering families from this one!
It was a delightful day, full of sunshine and children with big smiles: jumping and sliding on bouncy castles; enjoying the company of some of Wellgate Farm’s sweetest and softest little animal friends; and tucking into delicious hot food followed by the widest selection of ice cream I think I’ve ever seen (it takes a stronger will than mine to resist the temptation to embellish your ice cream with marshmallows, sprinkles, a Lotus crust and a decent drizzle of raspberry sauce, I can tell you)!
Highlights included the endlessly entertaining flying chairs of traditional fairground rides; and of course ongoing opportunities to rattle through Lodge Farm Park on our own gorgeous miniature railway.
Truly, it was the staff (pictured) who made the day such a success. Their professionalism, kindness and sense of fun made the children feel safe as well as hugely entertained.
And those precarious clouds? Well, they of did what they’d been threatening to do, bursting into a million soft raindrops… but they were courteous enough to wait until later in the afternoon, giving us ample time to pretend the whole of July is as summery as the calendar might suggest! Perfect.
