Man threatens bus driver and holds passengers hostage threatening them with a corrosive substance.

A man on board a 109 bus travelling from Brixton to Croydon, was arrested by police officers yesterday evening after holding a bus full of people hostage. The incident ended after officers stormed the bus clad in blue protective suits to rescue passengers and the driver who had been held hostage by a man claiming to have a bottle of corrosive liquid.

The incident began in Brixton when the driver and passengers had asked the man to not smoke on the bus. It is believed the individual then revealed a bottle of a corrosive substance and began shouting and threatening passengers on board the bus.

As the bus arrived in Croydon, it was surrounded by police officers including armed response officers and officers clad in blue protective suits and gas masks. Officers then entered the bus and removed the suspect who was taken into custody.

This was a very difficult and frightening situation for the bus driver and passengers on board the bus. Well done to our police officers for their dedicated response in resolving this incident without any harm to members of the public.
