Emerson Park station lights restored after passengers felt unsafe.
Havering and Redbridge Assembly Member and Transport spokesperson for City Hall Conservatives, Keith Prince steps in to resolve the situation.
Passengers using Emerson Park train station have been left with no lighting whatsoever and had to access the station in total darkness.The train station is quite remote from the main road and is accessed by walking down a steep slope to reach the platform.
Several train users had contacted the Havering Daily, to inform us that they felt extremely unsafe, especially women walking down the path and standing at the station in total darkness.
One passenger told the Havering Daily: “It’s quite frightening. There are no lights on at all. We have to walk down the long slope in the dark and then stand on the platform in complete darkness. You can’t see who’s coming down the path, or if someone is near you. It really is scary stuff.
“Sometimes when the guard arrives, he shines a light on the platform so we can see the train better. But if not, it really is a frightening experience.”
The Havering Daily contacted Havering and Redbridge Assembly Member Keith Prince, who was able to resolve the situation within hours and by the end of the day passengers had the lights restored at the station.
Mr Prince’s office contacted Transport for London as a matter of urgency following the appeal from women who felt unsafe. TfL informed Mr Prince that the lighting issue is a problem with UK Power Networks and was currently being investigated. However, emergency lighting was now being provided and will be in place until the issue is resolved.
Passengers returning home from work yesterday were pleased to report that they had lights on at last!
