‘The police are underfunded and over stretched.’

Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Margaret Mullane hits out at years of Tory underfunding that has vastly reduced police budgets.

Last week there were three incidents of knife crime across the East Area BCU, one at Dagenham Heathway, one at Chadwell Heath and an incident in Romford which resulted in three people suffering stab wounds. None of the injuries were life threatening.

Margaret Mullane, Labour’s PPC for Dagenham and Rainham told the Havering Daily: “Unfortunately we are no longer in the position to claim that this level of crime is unprecedented in our area. That must change. It is no secret that the police are underfunded and overstretched. The Tories have reduced policing budgets in London by over £1 billion since 2010, which has a direct impact on the Met’s ability to keep communities like ours safe.

“In January I launched a campaign calling for a parity of policing across the East Area BCU, more police visibility at transport hubs in Dagenham and Rainham, and fewer abstractions. We can’t police our way out of violent crime, but a visible police presence would provide a deterrent. Policing not only needs meaningful investment, but there must also be significant changes to officer distribution to ensure that local people feel protected.”

All elected Labour representatives from Dagenham and Rainham have united behind Margaret Mullane to support the policing campaign and the petition has gained huge support across the constituency from residents. The Police are the problem, there over funded and they get to much power to control the general public, there funding has been cut as they are in affective against criminal (being most of them are). Reform the police and maybe they would give more of a budget.

Are you a complete idiot Mr Robinson. When a police constables starting pay is over £10,,000 less than a first year nurse, it just shows that police have not been properly paid for years. Police on front line duties have to contend with the the scum that pry on our citizens. Outside the military. police have the most dangerous job in the country, never knowing if if a suspect is armed or not. You may not like to be told this but women are getting more and more violent and many arrested use the I have been sexually assaulted allegation As for the suggestion that most women are afraid of the police uniformed officers, would they go for assistance if threatened? You know nothing about police and what they have to put up with. clowns like you know nothing and believe everything they are told by the media. Even although degree entry has ruined recruitment, there are still hundreds of officers serving before this ridiculous requirement was brought in.
When back in the mid 1970’s, the incoming Government went back on their promise of a decent pay rise. Many officers started a work to rule which is quite legal. It took just two weeks before the government agreed to honour their promises. Police do not need to strike, just work to rule. I have been in countries that police have refuse to work. After towns being stripped of everything by thieves and violence out of control. You really do not want police to withdraw their labour They cannot jail the 140,000 police officers.in England and Wales. and you would be afraid to leave your home, that is if you still have one.
Before you rave of about police, thank your lucky stars that there are men and women out their willing to help anybody in trouble at great risk to themselves. GROW UP.

The Tories probably want armed private security companies to patrol THEIR home areas and undermining the police is a step towards it. If this suspicion is correct then it seems that a return of the gangster era in lower income areas may happen. Which type of “policing” policy is Andrew Rosindell MP in favour of ?
