Toilet trouble! Campaign to save Upminster toilets.

Upminster ward Conservative volunteer Adam Baker has launched a campaign to save the public toilets in Upminster. Following the publication of the recent budget by the new administration, the permanent closure of the toilets on Corbets Tey was announced.

Conservative member Mr Baker has written to the Residents Association councillors concerning the public toilets. However, the Upminster councillors have yet to respond.

Mr Baker said: “The council has also not justified how the closing of a key service enables people to enjoy Upminster’s shops, park, and other open spaces. Therefore, your local Conservative volunteers are now calling on Havering Council to re-open the toilets to pre-pandemic opening times.

“Please sign and share the petition to re-open the toilets and prevent them being indefinitely closed.  https://www.hornchurchandupminsterconservatives.com/news/re-open-public-toilets-upminster

“As a frequent user of the park and Upminster high street, fellow residents, which include children and mothers who are the most frequent users of the park, should be able to do their private business with dignity. Not behind bushes or in public spaces.” says Mr Baker.

“The Residents Association and Labour Council’s decision to close the toilets falsely claims it will save £24k a year. As the toilets have been closed since the pandemic; the upkeep of the toilets has been minimal. Even if it did cost £24k because of the high usage, this cut is the 4th smallest saving in the budget. The toilets were kept open under the previous Conservative administration, why can’t the HRA deliver as well? Residents of Upminster are against closing the toilets. In the public consultation on the budget, it is the 5th most negatively affected issue on the cuts list.”
