Metal drain covers being stolen across Havering.

It appears that there has been a spate of metal drain covers being stolen throughout the borough. Cones are being placed across different drains to stop them being left open, after the metal grid has been stolen.

This is happening right across Havering with reports of stolen covers in Elm Park, Romford and Hornchurch so far.

Councillor Stephanie Nunn has been alerted to these thefts and told the Havering Daily:

“We had calls from residents about Cowdray Way and Petworth Way, so phoned the out of hours Havering number to alert them.

“Obviously a person could fall down them on a dark night or a car wheel could get stuck. We went to check that warning vibes had been put out by Highways and we’re pleased to see that they had.

“We received confirmation of reports made by myself, Councillor Mugglestone and Juli Wilkes and additional information from Neighbourhoods that they had been stolen all over Havering.”
