Singing for the brain

A new musical and social group for people diagnosed with dementia and their carers will be opening in South Hornchurch on 15 July.

Havering Singing for The Brain 2020 will be holding the new group every Thursday from 2.00 – 4.00 pm at St John’s Church, South End Road and new members are invited to join.

Carol Kensit has attended the successful Gidea Park group for many years, first with her husband and now as a volunteer supporting other carers.

Carol told the Havering Daily “These groups are so beneficial both to people with dementia and their carers. They are very enjoyable and provide an opportunity to share experiences and seek advice from people who’ve already been through the dementia journey.”

The cost is £5 per person including refreshments. The first session is free for new members. Working carers attending with their patient are not charged. Attendees are required to have had both Covid vaccinations and asked to provide evidence on their first visit. The little blue card will suffice.

Carol continued “As soon as Covid restrictions allow we will return to our popular format of live music, singing and dancing and percussion. We are delighted to be able to take the club to the South Hornchurch area for the first time and are hoping to welcome lots of new members so please come along.”

New members are also very welcome at the Gidea Park group held every Wednesday 10.30am – 1.00pm at St Michael’s Church, Main Road, Romford.

Contact details for anyone attending the first time can be found on Havering Singing for The Brain’s website
