Wennington Village: HGV menace -Jon Cruddas MP.
Long suffering residents of Wennington Village Rainham have responded overwhelmingly in favour of measures to control HGVs plaguing their lives. Jon Cruddas the Dagenham and Rainham MP, issued a survey to all residents of the village in response to local people contacting him about the problems they face with lorry traffic cutting through the village.
• 96% say there are too many HGVs passing through the village• 77% want the junction with East Hall Lane closed to relieve the flow• 89% believe some form of restriction in Wennington Road would help solve the problem
Jon has now written to the Havering Council Chief Executive, Andrew Blake- Herbert bringing the problem to his attentionand calling for action.
Jon said, “The residents of Wennington Village have had enough and want action from Havering Council to stop this blight on their area and its environment. Their ideas to reroute the HGVs away from the village seem sensible. I have also suggested placing an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera there to control and deter these lorries. The one off cost would be in the region of £18,000. I know that Havering Council like all councils is facing massive financial pressures, but this is a small price to pay for the well being of residents who have suffered for long enough”.
