Monday 17th of August was a very special day for one member of the Havering community. Ernest Cox from Harold Wood celebrated his 100th birthday. What an amazing achievement!
On Sunday 16th of August a special 100th birthday party was held at the British Legion in Harold Wood where local firefighters and councillors all came together to wish Ernie a very happy birthday.
Ernest Cox was born in Camberwell in 1920. He started work at Williams Grocery store when he left school and when the war started in 1939 Ernest joined the Military Police and stayed with them until 1946.
He then joined the Fire Brigade and served in different fire stations around London for 40 years.
