Ivor Cameron, former Havering Councillor and Mayor dies

Ivor Cameron, a former Councillor and Mayor of Havering has died. Mr Cameron was first elected to the Council in 1990 and represented Hacton Ward continuously for 16 years until standing down at the May 2006 elections.

As a Councillor, he served mainly on the Council’s Corporate Services, Development & Transportation, Development Control, Education, Environment, Licensing and Governance Committees. He was also Mayor of the borough from 1996-1997.

He represented Havering on the Hornchurch Housing Trust and in 1996 was awarded a Paul Harris fellowship by the President of the Dagenham Rotary Club for Service to the Community and Furtherance of Better Understanding and Friendly Relations among peoples of the world.

Councillor Damian White, Leader of the Council, said:

“We are all deeply saddened by this news.

“Ivor’s dedication and commitment to the borough as both ward councillor and Mayor will not be forgotten. His personable approach to public service and his love for the borough improved the lives of many Havering residents. “On behalf of everyone at the Council, I would like to send my deepest sympathies and best wishes to Ivors’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time.”
