Havering Fabian Society Celebrate Their 50th Anniversary.

On Monday 21st October Havering Fabian Society celebrated it’s 50th Anniversary with a dinner at “Stay Restaurant” in Emerson Park. The Society was formed in 1974 by a quartet of activists : Dr.Bill Baker, Basil Newton, John Scott and Alan Thake. The latter served for decades as its Honorary Secretary.

Margaret Mullane the Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham has intervened to get repairs carried out to the traffic lights at the busy junction at the Cherry Tree Rainham. Margaret was contacted by residents and road users about deliberate vandalism to the traffic lights and the mayhem that has resulted.

The Council’s previous decision to cease the Sunday Market earlier this year was a reluctant one, but was necessary to address the financial losses arising from the Sunday operation.

As a broader issue, whilst some traders are disappointed about the loss of the Sunday Market, there was equally strong support from other traders to cease the Sunday operation as they felt it diluted their trading on the three regular market days.
