News from Beam Park Labour councillors.

Despite the pleas of affected residents, local councillors, and the Member of Parliament, Housing Association L&Q have refused to prioritise the repair of two broken lifts in Duxbury House in the new Beam Park development.

Beam Park Labour Councillor Matt Stanton spoke to affected residents in person on Wednesday and has been urging L&Q to repair the lifts as soon as possible.

“One lift requires a new motor and has been out of action for months, and now the fire-fighting lift has stopped working. We have notified the Fire Brigade of this and we have contacted L&Q daily on this issue since Monday, but they think it’s acceptable to leave vulnerable people trapped in their flats while they drag their feet.”

Councillor Trevor Mckeever also voiced his concerns regarding the medical needs of residents.

“We are aware that there are some residents who simply cannot manage the stairs, the only way that they can manage to live eight, nine, or ten floors up is with a working lift. L&Q should be ashamed of themselves for letting this go as long as it has”.
