The Palms Hotel Hotel Defends Guests After Claims About Migrants Circulate Online

Hotel says visitors were Nigerian IT professionals attending a London business conference, not the arrivals described in a local Facebook post.

A Hornchurch hotel has issued a public statement disputing claims circulating on social media that migrants were being dropped off at its premises, saying the people referred to were business visitors attending a conference in London.

The Palms Hotel, on Southend Arterial Road (A127), says it is extremely concerned about a post shared in a local Facebook community group and the potential consequences for its staff, guests and reputation.

According to the hotel, the individuals were IT professionals visiting from Nigeria who were staying at the hotel while attending The Business Show London, a three-day conference at the ExCeL exhibition centre.

In its statement, the hotel said: “We are extremely concerned by a false and misleading Facebook post circulating in a local community group, claiming that migrants are being dropped off at The Palms Hotel.”

It continued: “The individuals referred to are IT professionals visiting from Nigeria, staying at our hotel while attending a three-day conference at London’s ExCel Exhibition Centre – The Business Show London, one of the world’s largest business events for SMEs and startups. These allegations are completely FALSE.”

The hotel stressed that it welcomes tourists, business professionals and visitors from around the world and said hospitality, inclusivity and guest safety remained central to its work.

Management warned: “Spreading such reckless misinformation not only damages our reputation but also puts our hardworking staff and valued guests at potential risk.”

The hotel added: “We will be seeking legal counsel regarding the defamation of our hotel over these false and harmful remarks.”
