ANDREW ROSINDELL PAYS MOVING TRIBUTE TO LONG-TIME FRIEND JEFFREY ARCHER

Romford MP Andrew Rosindell has paid a deeply personal tribute to his friend Jeffrey Archer, remembering a friendship that began in Hornchurch in 1983 and continued for more than four decades.

Mr Rosindell said he was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden loss of his “dear friend” Jeffrey Archer, whom he first met when he was just 16 years old, in Hornchurch shortly before the General Election.

For more than 40 years, the pair remained friends, with Archer becoming someone Mr Rosindell could turn to throughout his political career.

Describing him as a “kind, caring and generous friend”, The Romford MP said Archer was always there for him and was never afraid to offer honest advice.

The former Conservative MP and author did not always agree with Mr Rosindell’s opinions, but, as the Romford MP recalled, he often made him stop and think.

One of Andrew’s fondest memories came in June 2024, when Archer travelled to Romford for Armed Forces Day.

The pair stood together to salute the borough’s veterans before Archer joined Rosindell on the campaign trail in Gidea Park as he fought for re-election as MP for Romford.

Archer predicted that Rosindell would win the election, but offered a warning that the victory would not come with his usual majority.

Once again, Rosindell recalled, his old friend was right.

For Mr Rosindell, however, Archer’s importance went far beyond politics and elections.

He was a friend who remained supportive through both the good times and the difficult moments, and someone who never forgot those who had been part of his life.

Andrew said he felt proud to have counted Archer among his friends and that his loss would be deeply felt.

Paying his final tribute, he said:

“Thank you for everything, old friend. I will miss you enormously.”

For a friendship that began when a 16-year-old met a political figure in Hornchurch in 1983, it was a friendship that endured for more than four decades, through elections, political successes, difficult moments and the changing face of Romford.

And for Andrew Rosindell, Jeffrey Archer will always be remembered first and foremost as an old and treasured friend.
