HAVERING RESIDENTS HAVE YOUR SAY-OVER 12 THOUSAND GREEN BELT-LINKED HOMES FEATURE IN MAYOR’S LONDON PLAN.
Havering residents have strongly objected to plans which could see thousands of homes delivered on greenfield land in the borough, with residents now being urged to make their voices heard before the consultation closes.
The Mayor of London’s Draft London Plan proposes a total housing target of 21,712 homes for Havering between 2027/28 and 2036/37, including 12,060 homes identified as greenfield development and 9,652 on brownfield land.
The scale of the proposed greenfield figure has caused concern among residents, particularly those who have repeatedly campaigned for Havering’s Green Belt and open spaces to be protected.
The Havering Daily has previously asked readers for their views on the proposals, with hundreds of residents leaving comments strongly objecting to the prospect of Green Belt land being released for housing.
The figures place Havering among the London boroughs facing the largest proposed greenfield housing targets.
However, the Draft London Plan is not yet adopted.
The current consultation is an opportunity for residents, community groups and organisations to make formal representations about the plan before it progresses to the next stage.
The Greater London Authority says the consultation is intended to help finalise the draft plan before it is submitted to the Secretary of State for an Examination in Public.
Residents are able to comment on whether they believe the plan is legally compliant, whether its policies meet the required tests of soundness and what changes they believe should be made.
The consultation closes at 5pm on Thursday, 15 October 2026.
For Havering residents concerned about the impact of the proposals, the message is simple: if you want your objection formally recorded, you need to make a representation before the deadline.
How to have your say
Residents can view the Draft London Plan and submit their comments directly through the Greater London Authority’s official consultation portal.
The consultation closes at 5pm on 15 October 2026.
OBJECT TO THE DRAFT LONDON PLAN – OFFICIAL GLA CONSULTATION
The consultation includes a specific section covering “Delivering the homes and neighbourhoods Londoners need”, as well as sections covering land use, the environment and place-based policies.
The GLA says responses will be logged and analysed before the plan progresses.
Once the consultation has concluded, the Mayor may make changes before formally submitting the plan to the Secretary of State. It would then go through an independent Examination in Public, where Planning Inspectors will consider the plan, the evidence behind it and the issues raised through consultation.
For residents who want Havering’s Green Belt protected, now is the opportunity to put that view on the official record.
