DIARY OF A WIMPY KID THE MUSICAL A HUGE HIT AT BROOKSIDE THEATRE
The Brookside Theatre in Romford is celebrating the outstanding success of Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Musical, which has proved to be a major hit with audiences during its summer run.
Based on Jeff Kinney’s internationally bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series, the production brought the much-loved characters of Greg Heffley, Rowley Jefferson, Susan and Frank Heffley and their unforgettable classmates to life in a vibrant, hilarious and heartwarming musical adventure. Packed with infectious songs, energetic choreography, laugh-out-loud comedy and plenty of larger-than-life characters, the production proved to be a firm favourite with families, children and fans of the original books and films.
The talented cast received an enthusiastic response throughout the run, with audiences particularly praising the energy, humour and warmth of the performances. The production successfully captured the spirit of Kinney’s much-loved characters while giving audiences the opportunity to experience Greg Heffley’s world in an exciting new way — live on stage.
A THEATRE EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE
One of the highlights of the run was the Brookside Theatre’s specially staged Relaxed Performance, designed to make live theatre more accessible and welcoming to families and audience members who may find the traditional theatre environment challenging.
During the performance, audience members were able to move around, make noise, leave and re-enter the auditorium when necessary, and enjoy the show without the usual expectations of a conventional theatre performance.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, with families welcoming the opportunity to enjoy a professional theatrical production in a more relaxed and inclusive environment.
The production’s director Harri Sepple said “I’m incredibly proud of the whole cast and creative team. The response from our audiences has been fantastic, and it has been wonderful to see so many families enjoying the show together. Our Relaxed Performance was particularly special. Live theatre should be something that everyone can enjoy, and seeing audience members feel comfortable, included and able to experience the magic of theatre in their own way was incredibly rewarding. The cast have worked tremendously hard throughout the rehearsal and performance period, and they have brought so much energy, humour and heart to these much-loved characters. I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved.”
